The first directs our attention to how and why we know God, the second to the attributes of God and the third to the benefits enjoyed by a those who know him intimately. This edition is updated with Americanized language and spelling and a new preface by the author.

Although I appreciated some of the concepts- I thought it was a very dry read. Lee Lin rated it did not like it Feb 26, Packer’s classic has been an important tool to help Christians around the world discover the wonder, the glory and the joy of knowing God.
The rest of the book is just as beautiful if only because Packer constantly draws us back to Christ. Keith Foster rated it it was ok Jul 25, Fredric Chaffey rated it it was ok Jul 29, No trivia or quizzes yet.
I have a strong feeling that many, many sermons I’ve heard have either been very strongly “inspired” by this work, else explored very similar themes. I think I would have enjoyed this book quite a bit more if I hadn’t spent six months reading.
The homeless and needy need to “know God”, the emotionally driven spiritualists “know God” from a religious experience, and many churches throw around the phrase in a way that does not encourage diod intimacy and knowledge, but a cliche. You can only know God if you know Jesus. The high point of the book is Packer’s distinction between knowing God and knowing about God.

I couldn’t help thinking he was kind of preaching to the choir. The things is when people j.ipacker broken in one area they favor the conoxiendo, like a crippled leg, because it hurts to heal. Knowing God is a matter of personal involvement – Mind, will, and feeling. While I’m not going to argue against including plenty of proof texts, listing them all in the mainline instead of footnotes makes for a jarring reading experience.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. That seems to be the question Packer seeks to answer in this book.

Ddios a woman, too, I often questioned if I was supposed to be reading this book since every argument was so male-centric.
